Only minus any of the cool powers
In an article recently, someone asked what I see first when I look at a woman. I replied “the neck.” Sir Peter then asked me if I were a vampire.
The answer, it seems, is perhaps.
Let’s break it down.
I am a night person. I always have been. My mother was always amazed if I got out of bed before noon on the weekends. When I was a lecturer I made a deal with my boss not to schedule any of my classes before 10:00 AM. Over the years I have noticed a definite increase in energy, strength, stamina, and awareness after the sun sets.
I can see in the dark. Well, not really, but my eyes are light sensitive. I have to wear sunglasses even on cloudy days or I’m squinting like mad, and if the sun is out I would be effectively blind. This means that my night-vision is very well developed. I am also color blind, and I have 20/15 vision. I don’t know if all of these are related, but I’ve heard color blindness and light-sensitivity are common among people with fair eyes, and mine are hazel.
Some of these effects might be attributed to my particular genetic disorder: the Migraine disease, one effect of which is a heightening of all senses. One of my major triggers is sunlight. If I get more than a couple hours of it I have an attack. Those who suffer from migraine attacks know that the result is something quite akin to a vampire’s slumber.
My mother’s familial background is Celtic. My father’s familial background is Hessian (I don’t like to say Aryan, but that’s pretty much what it is). So with all of this fair skinned blood I don’t do well under direct sunlight. I burn easy, to say the least.
Oh, and I’m pretty sure that a stake through my heart will kill me.
