Brosnan says he is through
Piece Brosnan is hanging up his Walther PPK and Aston Martin. According to Brosnan, “Bond is another lifetime behind me.” The next Bond flick is scheduled to be released November 18, 2005, but it seems someone other than Pierce will be in the lead. Who will be the new man to personify the Bond legend?
Well, here are some of the choices being batted around.
Clive Owen
Clive is my choice. I haven’t seen King Arthur, so I do not know how he did there, but his short appearance in the Bourne Identity was Bond all-the-way. His earlier work shows he has the range to handle the various aspects of Bond. He’s got smooth; he’s got style; he’s got the predator intensity.
Ioan Gruffudd
I like Ioan a lot. The Horatio Hornblower TV movies are among my favorite shows. I just don’t know if he has that predator intensity that Owen does so well. Ioan does internal conflict and reluctant heroism very well, but neither of those are Bond.
Colin Firth
Colin has done a lot of quality work in movies, so I have heard. Looking at his filmography I notice that I have seen some movies in which he has appeared, but I do not recall this actor at all.
Hugh Grant
No. No. No. The thought of Bond cracking that idiotic smile before basting someone away makes me cringe.
Gerard Butler
I like Butler. I even liked him as Dracula in Dracula 2000. I liked him as Attila. He was my favorite character in Timeline. And I look forward to seeing him as Beowulf. But I think he is a bit too meaty for Bond.
Jude Law
Jude could be an okay choice. He certainly has smooth down. And I his work in The Road to Perdition makes me think he can do intense. I think he would be a good choice.
Ewan McGregor
As one of my friends puts it, “Obi Wan can not be Bond!” I think Ewan is too light to play Bond, even when he is trying to be dark.
Hugh Jackman
“Wolverine can not be Bond!” I can’t really articulate why I think Hugh would be a bad choice, but I think casting him would be a mistake.
Heath Ledger
Too freaking young. Too freaking annoying.
Eric Bana
Bana is one of my favorite actors these days. His work in Blackhawk Down was freaking awesome. I did not like The Hulk, but I liked Eric as Bruce. In Troy, Bana’s Hector was the only character with whom I sympathized. He does an amazing Taurus: strong, honor-bound, loyal, Leo’s champion. But I’m not sure he can pull off the smooth sophistication of Bond.
